Corsets - Suck in

Adjusto coset

Have I mentioned corsets? Those things your Grandma was dying to get out of after a shopping trip. It seems we're going to have to put ourselves through that agony of wearing them, but, the ecstasy of knowing how good we look in our new fall/winter gear.

Karl Lagerfield has had his "wundercorset", a nude coloured mesh corset, with a front zipper, and padded bra, that lifts up your bustline and gives a long lean torso with a cinched in waistline.

After all the slouchy clothes we've been hiding under that have been the style of the past few seasons, we're finally getting clothes that will make us look and feel like women, if not ladies. For daytime, there are neat little suits, outlining the figure with slightly flared skirts.

Corsets of all shapes are appearing. Bustiers, waspies, corsets that cinch in the waist, hug the hip, zip or lace up at the front or back.

The hour glass shape is back.

This is a progression from the popularity of the wonderbra. Women have beem waiting for this. They're fed up with large sweaters and leggings. It's been too easy, for too long. They want to look feminine and sexy again. It's a whole new approach to dressing. It's a complete overhaul, from make-up right down to your underwear.

The history of the corset makes fascinating reading.

Hi,
my compliments on a very nice well composed website!
I just wanted to give some comments on the segment on corsets.
Recently much research has been done (e.g. Valerie Steele, David Kunzle) on the effects of corsets on women's health. Although restrictive when worn very tight, they do not cause the health issues that were traditionally blamed on corsets. Modern women who have engaged in this practice long term, do very well and have amazing figures.
A few good examples can be seen at
Fashion and the return of the laced Corset and Tightlacing with good references including medical texts e.g. by Dr. Ann Beaumont at the Lisa site.
