FTV Review
This movie from 1995 professes to show the 'real' world
of fashion. "Unzipped" features one of New York's most flamboyant
designers, Isaac Mizrahi. Isn't it interesting that this movie should
come out so soon after Prêt À Porter? Not feeling left out
were you Isaac?
Isaac Mizrahi: "The insight that I think the film's going to give people is
that it's not unnatural to be materialistic. Usually they assume that
people connected with fashion are cold and snobby, but it's easy to be
nice and have good taste as well."
Two weeks later...
Backstage at Isaac's show there is a mob scene.
Everyone's bustling to get a good look at the legendary Eartha Kitt. Even FTV
didn't get to speak with her.
George Wayne R.O.M.E Magazine : "I think that Isaac's a
showman. He knows a lot about showmanship. And Isaac is king."
Mrs. Mizrahi Isaac's mother : "To me he's a treasure. And I
think he's a treasure to the industry, but you can't go by a mother's word."
IM: In the 80's, a woman was afraid of this bimbo thing that made
her look like she was out of control. But today they maintain control
and show off their beauty."
It's been eight years since Ellen, born in Germany, stopped posing for the
camera and started taking picures herself. Since then her sexy,
spontaneous approach has won the acclaim of models and photograpers everywhere.
She has been compared with Helmut Newton. Many of
her fans attended the launch of her new book - "Snaps" - a collection of her
favourite pictures.
Ellen Von Unwerth: I enjoy photographing people. I try to make
them feel comfortable and relaxed. It works - most of the time."
Eva Herzigova
: "Her pictures are sexy with a little
sense of humour. It's not vulgar, it's always funny. It's always nice.
She was a model before, so she knows what it's like to be in front of the
camera."

Keren Mulder Model : "She has a lot of fun. You have a good
time and she takes pictures while you're having fun. Actually, she makes
it very easy."
Anna Wintour Editor-in-Chief, Vogue : "She has a much looser
approach than the more standard photographers. And I think her wit and
looseness is part of her charm."
EVU : " It's good to shock. It's not good to always be careful. It's
good to disturb a little."
Ellen Von Unwerth has also shaken the sensibilities with her fashion
videos and her short, sexy, farce "Inferno".
Helen Christensen : "She brings out the side of a woman that only
other women see. It's a funny side. All her photographs are beautiful."
Carre Otis : " The Blumarine show was intense.
Those high spiked
stiletto heels we had to wear, were very difficult to walk in.
Especially for me, because usually I dress strictly for comfort. And
sexy stuff happens in the bedroom."
Cecilla Chancelli
Actress : " I like her clothes. She knows
how to underscore femininity with grace. With particular attention to the
fabric which is important."

Helmut Newton shot Blumarine's Spring Campaign. (It is rumoured
that this collection was inspired by the James Bond ideal of femininity.)
Anna Moulinari Designer/Blumarine : "It's a feminine state
of mind - soft colours and a pinch of irony. Altogether a romantic, sexy
woman. A beautiful woman."
Only in New York would you see a street blocked off for the launch of a
make-up book. This must be an important event. It was hosted by Allure
magazine.
Chris Arnold Publicist : " We're expecting around 800
people. A lot of top models, people from the entertainment and
fashion world coming to congratulate Kevyn Aucoin on his brilliant book."
In preparing "The Art of Makeup", Kevyn recruited every hairdresser,
photographer and top model he'd ever worked with.
Kevyn Aucoin : "My boyfriend came up with the idea, he said, "You
have to do a book".
Jeanne Beker : "All the stars that you got to co-operate with you
on this book, that's incredible. Why do they love you so much?"
KA : I don't know. I've been really lucky. You'll have to ask them."
Mary Tyler-Moore : "Kevyn makes me look better than I really look.
He's a very talented man. And he's also very funny. We laugh a lot. I
trust him with my face."
Kristen McMenamy Model :"He makes me look like I've never
dreamed of looking. Well, I have dreamed of looking that way."
Cindy Crawford Model :"He really is an artist. He really
looks at the face like a blank canvas and goes from there."
William Norwich Editor-at-large, Vogue :"I don't know
what's going on here. All I know is, I wrote the biography for the book
and I want to go find the boy, congratulate him. Go home and take my
mascara off."

(This guy was dressed very soberly in a dark suit, no evidence of
mascara.)
Janet Jackson (on the arm of Kevyn) :"He's incredible to work with
He's a true artist."
In an earlier interview, Kevyn confesses that Janet Jackson is his
favourite person to work with and he follows her around like a puppy dog.
