VH1 Fashion Special Review
Fashion TV's special edition, which aired the weekend of Oct 8th, was a compilation of past shows featuring Ellen
Von Unwerth, Jean Paul Gaultier, Todd Oldham, and supermodel Yasmeen Ghauri.
Ellen Von Unwerth
Her work is sensual and sexy, in a field dominated by men.
Some of her work has been called pornographic, but the models see it as
sexy and sensuous.
Jean Paul Gaultier
In Paris, Gaultier showed his Spring Collection. He used non-professional
models, found at a
tattoo convention in London, and for this collection it worked.

Gaultier
uses tattoos
printed on sheer flesh-coloured fabric, giving the illusion of naked
skin. This collection featured multi-culturism, body piercing and
tattoos. (Gaultier claims the first lady ever to be tattooed was Queen Victoria.)
For some more information on tattoos, check the
Decorated Bodies section.
Yasmeen Ghauri
Yasmeen Ghauri is interviewed and she admits she has a reputation as a
bitch. She's honest. We go on a German Vogue shoot. She says her
toughness is a defence. She comes from an Islamic background - this is
where she gets her exotic looks. It was a good interview; Yasmeen came
across as a very open person who definitely knows what she wants.
She says that when she was at school, she was skinny and ugly. A perfume ad she
made upset her parents (her father is a minister), but she's matter of
fact about it, and says her
parents have their way of life and she has hers. Unfortunately they clash.
Todd Oldham
As a teenager Todd worked in Dallas, Texas in a Ralph Lauren shop doing
alterations. After a while, Todd decided to go on his own. His spring
collection was based on Dreams and Fantasies. It's brightly coloured and fun. He
feels that since we're faced with reality 24 hours a day, it's nice to take
a trip once in awhile. He's regarded as one of today's hippest designers.
Christy Turlington reveals, in a backstage interview, that she was
working with a broken toe.
