French-based Japanese designer Atsuro Tayama has been taking the
international fashion scene by storm with his unusual designs that combine
the subtlety of his Eastern influence with the relaxed feel of the West. His first collection in Paris was 1990, by then, it was no longer new to be a Japanese designer in Paris. When Atsuro Tayama arrived in Paris, a journalist wrote: 'The Japanese again! ... Yet another Japanese creator is settling down in the Marais district.' Tayama was Yamamoto's representative in Paris. After Yamamoto's collection in Paris in 1982 Tayama returned to Japan Formerly the chief designer of the renowned French fashion House of Cacharel a symbol of soft French femininity, he designs for the elegant modern woman, accentuating fluid lines and silhouettes. The emphasis of his collections is on comfort, with styles being long and sleek with a casual attitude. Tayama's most celebrated design on the French catwalk has been a denim-look dress in pure rayon, which doubled as a fashionable jacket. The fabrics used are unusual, but with an eye always on comfort, they are also the lightest. Polyester and rayon combine to give the benefits of a soft, flowing feel and the look of washable silk, pure white cotton shirts offer a fresh appearance. Colours are predominantly muted, such as grey, white and navy, and to offset his outfits, the designer does lace-up platforms in matching colours. He also worked with Issey Miyake while in Paris, and after being at Issey Miyake he set up his own brand.
