Spent childhood in North Africa, educated in
England. The daughter of painter Lucian Freud and the great-granddaughter of Sigmund Freud. Aged 16 she did a stint as Vivienne
Westwood's design assistant in the early 1980s. and Malcolm McLaren's
Seditionaries shop. Trained at Academia di
Costuma e Moda Rome, and studied tailoring at the Institutto
Mariotti both in Rome. Returned to work with Vivienne
Westwood as her personal assistant. Launched
own label in 1990 and showed her first collection at the London fashion shows in 1991. The English fashion house Jaegar appointed her as their chief designer to rejuvenate the brand in 2000. After Jaegar, she consulted for cult brand Biba, then resigned to refocus on her own label. Saucy tailored suits and
knitwear in pastel colours and reworked British
classics.
"When you look fantastic, then you stop worrying." Bella once said, and that sums up her stylish disposition.
