Christian Lacroix
Christian Lacroix was born in the southern French town of Arles in 1951
and from a very young age, he was interested in the fashionable clothes of
the middle class as well as the traditional garments worn by the rural
folk of Provence.
As a young man he was taken on by Hermes and three years later, by Jean
Patou, where he was artistic director until 1987. After receiving several
awards during the late '80s, he finally opened his own fashion house in
Paris in 1987.
Lacroix's new styles present a frenzied fusion of plaids, prints and
tartans that bombard the senses with their intimate interplay and
intoxicate the eyes with their cocktails of colour. Lacroix's mastery of
the luxurious and heavier fabrics, the hand-crafted tweeds and platinum
leather, is evident in his breathtaking suits and exquisite jackets.
