Born 1943 in Budapest, Hungary. Trained at St Martin's School of Art and London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Edina was a model and actress before she became interested in antique clothes. Inspired by knitwear of the 1930's and 1940's she launched a knitwear company, producing a range of sweaters in the 1960's, which specialized in nostalgic handknitted knitwear selling them through London markets. Shortly after, she was joined by Lena Stengard and by the late 1970's the firm of Edina and Lena was exporting sweaters worldwide. Ronay made her name with traditional Fair Isle patterns, motifs and bead decorations. With her numerouse outworkers, she is one of the biggest UK handknit designers. After the partnership was dissolved Edina Ronay launched her own fashion label in 1984 which conveys a classic line with a taste for glamour.
