Gianni Versace
Born:-12/02/1946
Died:-07/15/1997
By the time Gianni Versace label was launched in 1978, its designer was
already renowned for the collections he produced for famous Italian
fashion houses. Under his own label, Versace's stylistic genius came to be
widely recognised. Throughout his remarkable career Versace has earned
international tributes and awards, the most prestigious being the Stanley
Award, given for his contribution to fashion generally. He has also been
awarded for his more recent ventures into haute couture.
With emphasis on confidence, beauty and quality, his collections are
detailed research into forms and cuts which have a distinguished factory
and country workers' clothes from the industrial revolution up to arrival
of the overall. The use of classic fabrics such as crepe, silk
treated with varnishes and enamels producing shiny, iridescent and
metallic effects, act as a perfect balance to the simplicity of many of his
garments, while lending extra definition and character.
Gianni was senselessly murdered at his home in Florida, July 1997, by serial killer Andrew Cunanan.
