
Guiseppe Gustavo Mattli
(1907-82)
Swiss-born, came to London to train as a
tailor and learn English then worked for
Premet in Paris. Returned to London and
launched his couture house in 1934. Stopped
producing haute couture in 1955. After his
retirement, the ready-to-wear side continued
for some seasons but closed in the early
1970s. Famous for his suits, cocktail dresses
and understated eveningwear.
