Guy Laroche
After starting his career as a fashion assistant for Jean Dessese, Guy
Laroche traveled to the US to study new ways to make ready-to-wear, and
returned to Paris in 1957 to open his women's ready-to-wear line in 1961,
it was immediately hailed for the new breath of youth it brought to
fashion.
Over the years, Laroche's reputation grew, and in 1987, he was awarded the
French Legion of Honour. Twice in the '80s he won the Golden Thimble award
for his couture collections. He took on Angelo Tarlazzi as creative
director of his haute couture in 1989, and Jean-Pierre Marty now works on
the ready-to-wear, upholding the tradition of combining the classic and
dramatic in elegant daywear and lavish eveningwear.
