
John Cavanagh
(Born 1914)
Born in Ireland. At 18 was working for
Molyneux in London and then in Paris. Served
in the army during the Second World War.
From 1947 to 1952 worked for Balmain in
Paris. Launched own London house at 26-27
Curzon Street in 1952. A couturier who created
elegant, impeccably made chic tailored daywear
and evening clothes. Royal commissions
included the Duchess of Kent's wedding dress
of 1961. Establishment closed in 1974.
