Katharine Hamnett

(Born 1948) Educated at Cheltenham Ladies College and trained in fashion at St Martin's School of Art. Freelanced for various companies including Tuttabankem and launched her own label in 1979. Youthful, sometimes rebellious, sexy clothing and updated utilitarian styles in luxury fabrics. Brought ecological issues to fashion's forefront with her 1983 Choose Life collection. Has at times presented collections in Paris and Milan. British Designer or the Year 1984.
