Manolo Blahnik

Manolo Blahnik was born on 27 November 1942 in the small village of Santa Cruz de la Palma in the Canary Islands where he grew up on a banana plantation with his Spanish mother and Czech father. Studied literature in Geneva and the Ecole du Louvre, Paris. His path to London in 1971 was a circuitous one. His first job was a photo reporter before the then editor-in-cheif of US Vogue convinced him to design his first shoe collection and opened Chelsea shop in 1973 and another in New York in 1979. Refined ornate romantic and exotic shoes crafted in luxurious materials.
