Margaret Howell

(Born 1946) Studied fine art at Goldsmith's College and graduated in 1970. In 1971 she launched an accessory range. From 1972 started to design men's shirts and then expanded into a full range of menswear and womenswear. Opened retail outlet in 1981 selling understated reworked British classics in natural fibres. Staged first catwalk show in 1995.
