Nicole Farhi

French-born designer Nicole Farhi bases herself in England. She opened her concession in Harvey Nichols in 1983, and her first boutiques in London and New York the following year. There is not much Farhi cannot do with wool; such id her mastery of this medium that she was awarded The British Design Council's Award of Design Excellence for her '91 collection.

The Farhi philosophy is to design comfortable, relaxed clothing with an emphasis on soft structure, subtle colouring and fine-quality fabric. Her clothes reflect a timeless simplicity firmly rooted in modern European style and they have moved towards greater femininity over the years. For her, the lines are blurred between day and evening clothes.
