
Ossie Clark
(1942-96)
Born Raymond Clark in Liverpool, England.
Trained Manchester College of Art 1957-61,
London's Royal College of Art 1961-64. While at the RCA, he began designing for Quorum, a company dating from the early 1960s which became one of the most popular boutiques in Chelsea. Clark joined it full time in 1966. During the late 1960s and early 1970s Clark was one of the most important designers of his time, responsible for introducing and popularizing a variety of trends. Married to Celia Birtwell
influential fabric designer (trained Salford Art
School). A truly innovative designer who
exploited Op Art textiles, metallic leathers, and
snakeskins. By the late 1960s was celebrated
for soft tailoring and romantic eveningwear
made in fluid floral fabrics often crepes and
chiffons designed by Celia Birtwell.
