Rifat Ozbek

(Born 1953) Born in Turkey. Originally studied architecture but changed to fashion. Trained at St Martin's School of Art and was subsequently appointed designer at Monsoon. Launched his own label in 1984 producing influential and eclectic collections inspired by ethnic and historical dress and the London club scene. He is noted for his skilled cut, use of colour, and surface decoration. A designer with international appeal, he has shown in London and Milan, but now presents his collections in Paris. British Designer of the Year 1988 and 1992.
