
Victor Stiebel
(1907-76)
Born in South Africa. Moved to London in
1924 to study at Cambridge, where he
designed costumes for the Footlights revue. In
1929 he was apprenticed to Reville & Rossiter.
Left in 1932 to open his own Bruton Street
couture house. Served during the Second
World War, worked with Jacqmar in 1946 and
then re-opened his couture house in Cavendish
Square. A highly successful British designer,
celebrated for stylish feminine clothing,
especially eveningwear. Made much use of
striped fabrics. Closed 1963.
