The Madhouse
The Madhouse was set up in 1992. It was inspired by the premature birth of
Nicole and David's first daughter, Maddie, who weighed in at 4lb 3oz and
spent the first the first few weeks of her life in a special babycare
unit.
Says Nicole of the influence of her daughter:
"Finding clothes to fit my daughter at her premature weight was
impossible. With time on my hands recuperating in my hospital bed
for two weeks I made my own. After a number of complete strangers stopped
me to ask where I bought them, I realised that there was a demand for
bright colourful hats and clothes."
The success of The Madhouse has been down to the carefully selected
slightly alternative, loud fabrics, which this year ranges from fruit to
teapot designs.
